A Family Documentary Story: A day at the public library

I love how a picture tells a 1000 words. What do these images say to you? I see a curious child, an engaged child, a happy child. I love how books open a child’s imagination and create excitement that can be shared. Photographing a child in their element, watching their curiosity unfold is such a gift. It’s one of the things I most love. It brings back memories and reminds me to take pleasure in being present in the everyday things of life. Enjoying a book is something that is so basic, so fundamental- but also a privilege that isn’t afforded to everyone. I am truly grateful that I know the importance and significance reading with my children. It is bonding, it’s an adventure, it’s life-changing. Taking a visit to our local San Diego County Library is one of the most fun things that we do on a regular basis. We go about once a week. Each and every time, I see a childlike excitement emerge as new books are discovered and new stories are read. I hear my children talk about their favorite authors. I see them share their joy with each other as they share books. I feel the nostalgic glow as I smell the smell of library books – there is no more intoxicating scent. It’s a great pleasure in life, and it costs not one red cent. Funny how most of life’s great pleasures are free, but that is a blog for another day. In the meantime, be inspired. Grab a cup of coffee, and snuggle up with a good book. If you’re lucky, you may even have a little friend to join you.
